About Monique Aquino, MA, LMFTA
Providing Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples Ages 18 and Older.
Hello and welcome! My journey to becoming a therapist was born out of my own experience as the daughter of immigrants. My parents came to the U.S. to pursue a better life, but because of cultural differences, we often felt isolated. Thankfully, over time we were embraced by our community and found support from neighbors and friends. This is when I first recognized the importance of having healthy relationships. I believe happiness in life is directly related to the quality of the relationships we have with ourselves and others. My joy is helping people find peace in their lives and create meaningful, fulfilling relationships.
I am a bilingual (English and Spanish) licensed marriage and family therapy associate with 16 years of experience, a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in marriage and family therapy. I have worked with children, teens, couples and families as a case manager, a program manager, an intensive in-home team therapist, a group home therapist, a juvenile justice therapist and an outpatient therapist. I have experience in treating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, trauma and family conflict. I have a specialty in relationship dynamics and help couples work through conflict and find ways to connect and feel safe.
Research shows that the most important predictor of therapy success is the relationship between the therapist and the client. I provide a non-judgmental, safe space for healing with a strengths-based approach that focuses on collaboration and self-compassion. As a systemic therapist, I use evidenced-based practices, such as brief solution-based therapy, systemic family therapies, emotional focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I also teach clients practical techniques to regulate their emotions, such as mindfulness, meditation, breathing exercises, self-compassion scripts and more.
Outside of the therapy room, I am a dedicated wife and mother of two mini humans who fill my heart and challenge me in every possible way. We often spend time with our family and friends, enjoying the outdoors and celebrating life. I have a love for running which started in middle school and continues today, as I run to destress, exercise or race for a cure. The other pieces of my heart belong to my dogs Luna and Monty and my plants, all of which I spoil every day.
Reaching out is the first step toward a better life. If you have any questions or are ready to start your healing journey, I am ready to help. I have immediate availability for self-pay individuals and couples ages 18 and over. Email me at [email protected] or contact our practice at the button below.
